The Faculty of Materials Science and Technology (MST@HCMUS) is built on the basis of the Department of Materials Science, under the University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City, which was established in 2003. Over more than 20 years of development, MST has achieved sustainable growth and made significant contributions to the development of the university.
Currently, the Faculty has 41 staff members and employees, including 1 professor, 6 associate professors, 19 doctors. The faculty members of MST are devoted professionals with excellent expertise to fulfill the mission of undergraduate and postgraduate education and scientific research in the field of materials science and technology, such as nanomaterials, electronic and semiconductor components, hydrogen fuel cells, solar cells, biodegradable polymer materials, fire-resistant materials, environmentally friendly 3D printing materials, drug-delivery biomaterials, luminescent materials, etc.
In the process of integration and development, MST continuously innovates and improves its training programs. The training programs, from undergraduate to postgraduate levels in the field of materials science, meet the quality standards of the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). Students are equipped with solid foundational and specialized knowledge in materials science, as well as enhancing their soft skills through short-term training courses, mandatory skill-based courses, field trips, and internships at enterprises. This helps students meet the high-quality human resources demand in the advanced materials field, aligned with the strategic orientation of the Faculty, the University, and Ho Chi Minh City National University.
In recent years, scientific research at the Faculty has experienced strong development. Alongside fundamental research topics that have achieved scientific and technological awards and publications in increasing numbers and quality in international journals, MST has also focused on applied research and technology transfer, collaborating with enterprises. In the past three years, the faculty and students of MST have achieved several proud accomplishments, including:
44 approved research projects
173 ISI scientific papers
05 technology transfer projects for enterprises
09 patents/useful inventions
01 Science and Technology Award - Golden Globe
01 Vietnamese Female Student in Science and Technology Award in 2023
02 awards for outstanding student research teams at the university level
21 students/researchers awarded at the university/city/national level.
The Faculty of Materials Science and Technology has been consistently awarded the titles of Excellent Labor Collective, Commendation Certificate, and the honor of receiving the Government's Flag of Emulation for excellent completion of educational and training tasks, and leading the patriotic emulation movement in the 2020-2021 academic year by the Ho Chi Minh City National University.
With a pioneering spirit, constant effort, and unity, the collective of MST has gradually established its position in education and scientific research in the field of advanced materials, both domestically and internationally.
